Which club around Stockport?

Hi all, new to this forum and I've only just started cycling 3 weeks ago!!!, My question is I want to join a club but there are so many clubs around Stockport area that I am unsure which one I would like to get involved in circuit and road racing in the near future!! so I want to join a club that is involved in these at all levels as well as serious training, chaingangs etc and club runs!! Many, many years ago(20 years ago) when I was a lad I was involved in cycling and use to go to H (coach) as well ! so I know what to expect as regards to training.
ps the club I was involved when I was a lad was Abbotsford Park Road Racing but would like to go somewhere nearer.

Now there's a name I remember from nearly 20 years ago!!

As a recently returned to the sport ex racing cyclist, my one enduring memory of "H" were the words he greeted me with the first time I turned up on his doorstep.

"where's your cap lad?"

I was immediately made aware that keeping one's cap on at all times was the secret to biking success!!!

I remembered "h" or to others Harold Nelson I think that was his name was the tea in the flask and a biscuit after you had been on the rollers!!! lol, but yes you would get a telling off if you didn,t have a hat on when you arrived at his house. Great bloke who gives up some much of his time to the sport.

Well it looks like I may give Manchester Wheelers a go when I get more fitter.

Does anybody know much about a club called "Janus Road Club" meets not far from where I live etc. Cheers G

I used to ride for Janus many many years ago, not sure how big they are now though and how serious they focus on racing/TT's.
