Upgrading to 105 or Rival

I've currently got a Giant SCR 3 (2008) equipped with Shimano Sora and I hate it! So I'm looking to upgrade to Shimano 105 or SRAM Rival. Firstly is there any main reason why I shouldn't get one or the other, or is it just personal preference? Secondly, will I notice a massive improvement over the Sora? (sounds like a stupid question I know!)
Many thanks

    Personal Preference.

Rival would be a massive improvement over Sora, loads lighter and better shifting, with better finish on the components.

I dumped 105 off the winter bike and switched to Rival on it and never looked back, Im not saying its better, but its so positive. I never liked the 'move the brake lever' downshifts on Shimano either myself, I just don't find it ergonomic or whatever you'd say. Ive got Red shifters since then with Force mechs running on another bike and when I get on the Rival its just so damn good, there's not a mile to pick between the two.

Personally though, Id JUST edge towards using Shimano cassettes with my Sram gear cos Ive done a switch around and found it is a tiny touch smoother shifting, so I'll be sticking with them from now on (thats 105 and Sram 1070 on the same bike compared that made me switch).

Id love to have some Campag gear as well though, mainly cos I think the new hood shape is brilliant in use (even though it looks ugly IMO) but it would have to be Chorus 11 or above.
