Unsure whether this is in the wrong place or not and I do wish I had a digital camera so I could postr a photo but some members may know the piece I'm talking about.

Anyway I have an old CB Majestic circa 1980 and have recently stripped her down for a respray etc. A few parts have had it, the headset needs replacing and seeing as I'm not doing an authentic restoration that's no problem - there's loads to choose from although any recommendations would be good?

However there is one small part which is also knackered which serves as a rear brake cable guide and doubles up as a tightener, with a bolt through it, for the seat stem. IT sits right at the top of the frame just below the seat. So, first question is this known as a cable guide? Se3cond question, if anyone knows the part I am talking about do you know where I could get a replacement or something that will dot he job just as well. A cursory glance on the internet hasn't brought much up in terms of old parts but any part that would do the job just as well...

Any suggestions?

Is this what you're referring to? http://www.bikeparts.com/search_results ... =BPC109943 If that's the correct part it's made by Tektro which most LBS should be able to order. Good headsets would be the Cane Creek 100 or 110 and the uber expensive Chris King. Any of those headsets should last another 30yrs. You don't necessarily have to spend that much money for a decent headset though.
  • Thanks Cranky, it isn't the same part but one question you may be able to help with too. I presume that the bolt that passes horizontally through both the piece itself and fits through two holes on the frame could be used to tighten the seat stem with just the bolt alone, or is this piece needed too?

    Just wondering...

Yes, you can just use the bolt by itself although there are a few slight variations of bolts for steel seat clamps as long as it is short enough and fits in the bolt holes it should be OK. If there is any way possible to get pics that would be very helpful in finding the other part as well.
