looking at buying knee pads and elbow pads. but at a budget as i am only 16. was looking at the six six one knee pads such as the tom cat, kyle strait? what is the best? don't want them to be loose so they slide down when pedaling, but don't want them to cut my circulation off.
the tom cats are cheeper, but which is worth the money?
and can you suggest some elbow pads of similar type?

thanks tom

    Tom

I have a pair of Troy Lee T Bone knee pads worn twice, washed and in perfect condition for sale at £25 if you're interested. Size M. I bought them but quickly realised I didn't really need them....... :(

You'll not regret buying Kyle Straits I think, they're not too expensive and they're absolutely brilliant. I wouldn't cut a corner here, the difference between good pads and bad pads is huge, at the end of the day if you don't get on with them you'll never wear them. The Troy Lees seem good too, not tried those myself.

Elbows isn't so easy, though, the Chicken Wings just aren't very good- they're a bit restrictive and hot because they're so enclosed and solid, and rely on a tight fit. Decent enough but I don't really rate mine, though they work in a crash. They've made them too compact, which means they have to be really dense and solid to do the job. Elbow pads have a hard job to do really. I've come to like my POC Bones ones but they're pretty expensive.

+1 for Kyle straits, a range of sizes plus adjustable elastic straps, very comfortable. Hardly notice them when riding. I alsohave the veggie shin pads and they work well together. Much more comfy than some of the combined knee and shin hard platic shell type combo pads I tried on before buying.

Same here, I also have a pair of chiken wings which are okay as far as elbow pads go. but there is always a compromise.

Why are MTB economics; spend twice as much as you intended, but only half as much as you wish you could afford?

If you can get Kyle Strait Patriots for £25, tbh you'd be nuts not to.
