Gents, is there a worthwhile pad upgrade? Mine will be due soon (Avid Elixirs) so I am considering what's available - Avid pads, Fibrax Avids, Goodridge Avids........ which ones are the best?? And what is better - sintered or organic? My riding is mainly xc - out on the oxdrove, Swinley and a few Wales trips.
Thanks as always

Sintered. I get mine from superstar...0

i read a review of some avid pads in MBUK the other day, i can't for the life of me remember what they were called but they were sintered and organic (sintered on the outside organic in the middle) and the MBUK guys really rated them. I'll have a look on sunday for you when i can get at my mag if you want?0

I found Goodridge pads to be a decent upgrade on my old Hope Mono M4's, but with my Elixirs I've just stuck to the standard Avid pads. They stop the bike amazingly well and last for ages. I took two sets of pads with me to Morzine/Les Gets earlier this year expecting to through at least one set, but no. Still got the same pads in just now.
If it ain't broke . . .0 -
I run the sintered pads from superstar.
They have lasted really well and you can get four pairs for thirty quid! Avid ones were abot 20 per pair!! Far too much!!Eagles may fly high but Weasels dont get sucked into jet engines.

i'm pretty sure (but please don't quote me on this) that the pads for the juicy and the elixir are the same
EDIT: nope, i'm wrong, and from a look at the ashima site, they only do pads for the juicy's, codes and bb5's, sorry.0 -
Bloody hell! No one does braided hoses for Elixirs and now you can't get fancy-pants pads for them either! How long does a component have to be out for before it stops being new?!
Bah! :evil:0 -
yeah it's silly, tried some elixirs the other day too, wish i'd bought some instead of my juicy 5's, d'oh! They're ridiculously powerful!0

Not a bad deal on the Superstar sintered pads, £59 for 10 pairs

Should anyone be interested, I liked the sound of those Ashima SOS pads that are currently unavailable for the Elixirs, so I mailed the company direct. Here's the reply I got from Wayne Moore, General Manager of Ashima . . . apparently:Currently we actually haven't raised the tooling for the Elixir in the SOS
format....being in the aftermarket business we need to wait a little to ensure
enough systems are in the field prior to making the tooling, especially in the case
of the SOS format as we need double the amount of tools.
That said in the case of the Elixir it's my intention to have the tools ready for
the start of 2010 so should be available next season......sorry for the delay!
Good stuff and a prompt reply that bounced through three different departments, all of whom mailed me to let me know they were passing on my query. That's pretty good service for what was only a numpty email from Haggis Land.0 -
Thanks for the news, look forward to trying these pads...won't order as many pairs of the Superstars nowAdam.

I have just ordered some sintered pads from superstar. I will let you know how I got on.
I went out in Thetford forest today and my standard elixir pads are shot to buts after just 1 ride in the wet, I guess the Thetford sand does not help but I expected them to last longer that that.Simon0 -
So...going to buy some pads tonight....
Superstar sintered...

Well I'm no fan of Superstar, once bitten and all that, but at least I've heard of them, unlike F1 pads.0

Bah!
Goodridge will soon, it's the barbs olives banjos etc. that are the real problem.0 -
But they're just the same as Juicy ones? That's what I'm running in my Elixirs.0
