New rear axle for cheap mtn bike - What to get?

Hey guys,

I was getting my old cheap mountain bike ready for a set of new tires, I thought I would sort out the wobble on the rear wheel while I was at it (from a topple ages ago).

While removing the rear wheel I noticed the rear axle is bent beyond repair, not only that but the bearing cover is also bent, is there anyway I can just replace this axle? I've had a look at buying a replacement but there is so many to choose from. I do not want anything fancy as this is just my rat bike.

It's threaded along the whole entire length and the length is 175mm and the thickness is 9.50mm.

I do not really wish to replace the whole wheel/hub as I don't really have the money or tools.

Thanks for the help in advance everyone.

I'll upload some pics in a second.

Go for the gold coloured Chro-Mo axles, nearer a tenner but stronger than the £5 Helfraud offerings.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • This looks like the one:

  • Actually what would be the difference between that and the standard one shown here for the same price? A bit confusing!

  • Hey guys, thanks for the help, I got the gold one today, seems like perfect but I've got a problem removing the cassette so haven't been able to see if it fits right yet, should do though.

They're the same price, but Halfords recommended the gold one straight away when I asked about the difference.
