Havnt made a post today so here it is...

I am in need of a decent trail bike bag as i am going to start riding trails alone 9i have been meaning to do this along time)

The bag must be no larger than 25 litres
Must be able to carry: a spare inner tube, multi tools and spanner, a small lunch and snacks, gloves, sunglasses

a sunglasses pouch would be nice
a water bladder no larger than 2 litres
chest and waist straps
look decent

so far i have found:

ogio hydration pack
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=12301

Dakine session
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=35603

I will not budge over the £45 mark

Hope you guys can crack up some good results

:P

Depends what type of bag you're after. Sheepsteeth stumbled on some cracking compression bags a while ago: http://www.alpkit.com/gourdon/

You won't beat them for price / functionality / capacity, depends what you're after.

  • Take a look at the OMM (Original Mountain Marathon) site. I've been using these bags for years as a hiker. Their 25 litre pack is fantastic, light, strong and packed with useful features.

The bag you seek is the Camelbak Chaos  2 litre water bladder, 9.5 litres of storage (which is more than it sounds as the bag's well laid out- it's enough for pump, tools, food, a fleece, a small waterproof, sunglasses and a half litre water bottle frinstance), compression straps so you can shrink the pack if you're not using all the luggage (you can also hang kit on these, such as pads), protective camera/MP3 player/sunglasses pocket up top with a waterproof zip, and a well organised back pocket. Sits where you put it whether it's full or empty, so it's perfect for all day rides or thrashes down downhill tracks. (Mine has done 40-mile XC rides, Fort William downhill, er, and a Metallica concert  ) It's pretty narrow so less sweaty than most, and has good ventilation.

The only real criticism I have is that with the luggage and bladder both full, it balloons up a wee bit which can feel a little odd, and needs the straps adjusting to suit. But that soon goes away. Some packs don't do this so obviously, my Mule doesn't do it,but then my Mule doesn't sit anything like as well on my back the rest of the time.

Oh, and it comes in different colours, some of which are disgusting  But there's a black, and a fairly nice khaki.

The Chaos(and Mule) are good but well over FCJ's budget I think......

The Chaos is actually only 54 at CRC but he wont budge!

Ahh, but what happens when you've licked your wounds, feel better, bounced back and want to go dirt jumping again, hmm?

Xmas stuff? How old are you :) This is slightly (OK a lot) over budget but what you really want is one of these: Kriega Hydro 3. Dial in one of the add-on packs for extra capacity. £55-ish from your lbs if you speak nicely to them.
  • currently looks like either the dakine or ogio at the mo then

Karrimor Zodiak - various colours and sizes from ebay

Then just get whatever water bladder you want. I have one of these:
    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Lezyn ... 360034777/
which because of top opening, is easy to dry out so you don't get mould growing inside.

    Hello,

I have a netbook (and case) that I need to fit into a hydration back. The dimensions of this are 31cm x 25cm x 5cm. Would this fit in the bag that you mention?

    Thanks,
    Jonathan
