Blooming cold tooties

On Sunday we went out, on my first ride for a while.

Knowing it would be cold, low single figure degree C, I went OTT in order to keep my feet warm, and it still wasn't enough.

I wore a pair of 'summer' socks, a pair of woolly bullies, my over socks and then over shoes.

Guess what, not only was I late & tired after getting dressed, 2 hours later my feet were still cold.

I don't over tighten my shoes. (Spech carbon)

I'm used to my feet being cold, my 'summer socks' barely come out of the draw, but even by my standards I thought this was somewhat extreme.

What should I be wearing?

After putting two pairs of socks on, were your shoes not tight!?
Tight shoes are great for making your feet cold

Northwave Celcius Boots with Woolie Boolies or Assos Winter Plus socks (as already mentioned allow room for warm air to circulate so may need to go up half a size). Never have cold feet again.
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

Goretex shoes and decent socks. Prevents windchill on the feet allowing your body to keep them warm.

Don't forget to re-adjust your shoes after 20-30mins, feet swell and if your shoes were perfect when you set off they're then too tight restricting circulation.

Thanks to the good people here, when I was kitting myself out, I listened, and brought shoes 1 size bigger.
I even wear these loose, and loosened still further for Sunday, so there was bags of room.

As I said, my feet aren't cold for about 2 weeks in August when we are +20 degrees and I'm still wearing Woolie Boolies.

That is a good point, Ride. I'm all for anything that doesn't cost.
