New Forest cycling?

I have been road cycling for the last 3-4 months. I go out every Sat / Sun on my own and cover 40 - 60 miles each time. Is there anyone else out there in the North West corner (Fordingbridge) of the forest who would welcome a training partner?
Average speed in the forest over 60 miles = 18 mph. I love the sport but would welcome some cycling buddies now and again.
I did the New Forest sportive last week in 6 hours 18 mins. Not too bad.

Hi, you are not alone in Fordingbridge
How would you like to join me and a friend for a forest ride on Sunday ?
There are usually three of us but our female friend cannot make it this week.
We usually do 30 / 40 miles but at a lower average than you (old gits in our early fifties)
Anyway no obligation but if you want company this Sunday morning let me know.He is not the messiah, he is a very naughty boy !!0 -
You are riding at a very good solo pace, you should have no problems joining a club and keeping up with them on their runs.
Why not check here for clubs in your area, there'll be a few round your way I imagine...

I did the Dunsfold Sportive and it nearly killed me... I live in a flat area :shock:Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0 -
Just a tad far for me ...Lymington here. I'd get to you and have to turn back
My cycling buddy is swamped at work at the moment so most of my rides of late have been solo.
How was the NF sportive? I really wanted to do it but I bottled as I didn't want to ride the 100m on my own. :oops:The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle. ...Stapp’s Ironical Paradox Law

Hello there.
I am in Verwood, just up the road and try to get out on Saturday mornings when I can.
Sundays are not great as my boy is always playing football etc.
I have a route from Verwood which takes me out to Cripplestyle, Cranborne, Moor Crichel, Tarrant Kingston, Wimborne, Holt and back home. Depending on which loops I add it is between 40 and 50 miles and I average about 18mph.
It is a cracking route and takes in mainly empty country lanes. Sheer Bliss in the sunshine on a crisp Saturday morning.
You can't have too many training partners so give me a shout.

Hi again, ref my reply about a Forest ride, sorry but unfortunately this Sunday is off
We will definitely be doing it next Sunday morning though when there will be three of us so anyone is welcome to join inHe is not the messiah, he is a very naughty boy !!0 -
Hi everyone, thanks for your replies, they are greatly appreciated.
I am going to go out with the Bournemouth wheelers on Sunday. They are really good to cycle with. The first club run that i went out on had approx 12 - 15 riders. Great experience for me as a mere beginner. The only minor problem is getting back at 1-2pm in the afternoon. It feels as if your day has gone! That's why i like riding in the Forest. Out of my front door and go!
The NF sportive was fab, I can recommend it to anyone, especially newcomers as there aren't too many testing hills.0 -
I agree.
For me it's all about getting out early and finishing before midday, then having the rest of the day to yourselfI ride therefore I am0 -
Hello another Verwood person here - who also goes out solo and often on routes as described above by afcbian.
Sundays are often when my son plays football (Rossgarth U11's this year).
Let me know when the next few rides are coming up if you don't mind me popping along.
(last year I could do 50-60 miles at 18mph average no probs - this year I have been hardly out and so 40miles at 16-17mph is more like it - but won't take me long to get back again).0 -
Hi there
My son is in the Rossgarth U10's..................small world.
Would be happy to get together for a ride.
Whereabouts in Verwood are you ?
