I have a Quartz BAttery run Omega Seamaster (Ie non Chrono) and I love it. Has lasted longer than any other watch I have ever owned. I used to end up scratching the glass of other watches to the point where they were unusable but this thing has been with me for over 7 years now and I only replaced the batteries once.

I am thinking about buying a Tag Heure Monaco next though. I lkie the square ugliness of it.

my "proper" watch is a titanium Seiko - ridiculously light, i love it!

but i cycle in a £15 casio "ironman" digital, which i can then wear in the shower to stop stinky strap syndrome.....

Ah, I'd love to get a decent watch - definitely on my things to get list!

Had a couple of Swatches in the past, I do like the low profile of them all.

Currently using this CASIO G-Shock. Decided to go for one that's pretty much indestructible whilst looking alright. Upgraded from this ultra-cheapo CASIO, it's basically it's bigger brother... :)

For randomness. I've got one of the PIMP Pimpin' Ain't Easy LED watches that I ordered from tokyoflash.com. Unfortunately it appears to have broken (LEDs constantly on now, must be a contact rubbing somewhere) which is a shame - was always a good conversation starter in a bar!

  • You could wear a PIMP watch on both arms and turn it on when indicating to turn left or right while cycling :)

At Uni I wanted a belt that could do that. I'd enter the message, "Down there".... Alas, on a night out I saw a gay guy with the same belt with exactly the same idea...

Time bends anyway when I'm SCRing, so it's pointless me wearing a watch...

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannyway, I've got a Rip Curl rubber strap style watch with hands on it. But I sometimes use a Timex HRM. There's also the clock on the Cateye speedo. Don't wear my nicer watch because of the weight and it's not a completely tight fit, so the movement when cycling is a bit irritating.

My Grandad wa into his Horology.

As such I inherited quite a few time pieces:

    1964 Heauer Carrera Automatic
    1960's Heuer Monza Automatic
3 1960's Omega Seamasters with different options
2 1960's Omega Speedmasters (including the very rare moonshot NASA type one!)
4 Breitling Navitimers from various years
1 Omega Seamaster (that I use daily!)

I also have a fake U-Boat large faced watch that I use daily and a fake Heuer Carrera

Also got left Marine Campasses, Theodolites from various years and all sorts of other instruments......!
  • I'm surprised by the number of Omegas being mentioned (whether inherited or bought) and the lack of Rolex. Not that I'd buy a Rolex but I always thought it was the luxury watch most people have heard of.

    LOL!

Funny thing is, as a kid I wanted comics to read but was given watches to play with when we visited my granparents!

I wear my fake watches all the time, 70 Eur for the U-boat and 30Eur for the Carrera. Only wear the originals at formal events.

I definitely take the watch off when going for a "proper" ride, mainly in case of a fall, but I leave it n for the commute as I'll want the watch with me. That's probably not the most logical thing in the world.

I would love a nice Omega. I don't think I could ever justify a new De Ville short of a lottery win or paying off the mortgage, but one day I'll talk myself into a 60's Seamaster De Ville. Until then, the automatic Tissot with it's date at the 4 oclock position will have to suffice.

BTW, the story I've heard about the Moon watches was that NASA sent a guy down to a local Houston jewellers and told him to bring back a few of their watches. They ran some tests on them and the Omega was chosen and more ordered. The first Omega knew about their watches being NASA issue and in space was when they saw a photograph in the newspapers and recognised the watch!

Thats correct - it is not a specific watch. It is just the same model as in the photographs from the same batch of serial numbers sent to the USA for NASA (although it may not have been sent to NASA actually!). My grandfather was in the MOD for a long time and was a US liason for military stuff....

Even for tacky me i wouldn't get one. I saw it all the time with my friends. Did some overtime "Gotta get da Rolex blud!"

Turned 21 "I'm getting a Rolex for my birthday".

First pay cheque/bonus "I'm moving on up to a Rolex"

Nothing against them prestiege wise though I think they are surpassed in terms of quality by other brands. I just would venture towards something else. A little like I want an Alfa Romeo next over and above an Audi, BMW or VW.... Well that's what I'll be calling the Escort when I buy it....

I'm a fan of chronographs but everytime I see that I watch I always have to think "Where on the dial is it actually telling me the time".

    Lovely watch though, very light!

Haha - I know what you mean about "Where's the time...?"

You know when someone asks for the time and they grab your wrist to look at your watch - they always go "Only 12 o'clock? It feels later than that..." and then you have to point out the actual clcok face and tell them the time for them.

  • Love love LOVE my blue Tag monaco (non-chrono). To me it's different, but simple, classic and really solid. On the bike I usually wear a Polar HRM, or sometimes a chrono g-shock that's tough as boots and really 'trick' - solar powered, satellite-sync'ed, multi time zone etc etc.

agree on Rolex - they don't look like they cost as much as they do, and they're a bit 'burberry'. Actually I'm thinking about the really, really classic Casios that are back on Amazon at the moment for about £8.

Yeah, I know what you mean - my dad finally got his dad's old Omega serviced and working again, after keeping it in a drawer since before I was born. Nothing flashy, plain gold face, black leather strap, little greek symbol on the dial.

Not my cup of tea - yet - but I dare-say I'll grow into it...!
