Hub problem?

Hi folks,advice please!
Sometimes when I pedal hard my cassette feels like it's spinning round rather than turning the back wheel and makes an audible clacking sound. I've checked the cassette is seated correctly on the free hub and that the lock ring is fully tightened.
Could the problem be with the internals of my hub/pawls slipping??
Hubs are DT Swiss stock on my 2008 Stumpjumper Elite. Bike is only 9 months old so is this a warranty issue?

sounds like the freehub is going, open it up and give it a clean, and possibly new pawls/springs.0
