Rockshock Rebas £250 on On-One the team ones have the black box damping control which makes a difference apprarently. I'll let you know when mine arrive. Upgrading an 05 cindercone :D

SRAM and shimano are just as good as eachother until it comes to chains; just make sure whatever you go for you run an SRAM chain. Remeber, if you upgrade your gears or mech to SRAM you'll have to buy the whole set in one go because you can't mix and match SRAM levers / mechs with Shimano ones.

Worth checking the sale sections of the cycling e-shop websites, there's some very good deals on 2009 forks, especially RockShox.

    actually you can mix them.

I have SRAM attack shifters on Shimano they are designed to be 2:1 compatible. you can also run a 1:1 front shifter on a 2:1 mech. The TRX range (alvio level) are also compatible. The attacks are somewhere between the X.5 and X.7.

Now what would be clever, is if they did a reversable cam or cog, to enable you to switch 1:1 to 2:1 across the range

tbh I would just do the forx and replace stuff that needs replacing.

Wrong use of words; there are a couple of SRAM shifters that are 2:1 compatible.... You can't get a Shimano shifter and run it with an SRAM mech. In general they are not compatible.

You can't get a Shimano shifter and run it with an SRAM mech.

    I think you mean
You can't get a Shimano shifter and run it with an SRAM Rear mech.

they work fine on the front mixed

The Juicy 5 is almost exactly the same as the 3 you have. The Elixir is a newer, better brake but i'd stick with what you have for now - wheels would be a better upgrade

+1 even the J7 has little difference - maybe ugrade to 185/160 rotors and just buy mounts.

definately a new wheelset over brakes, a lighter, stiffer set of rims will really change the feel of the bike, despite the fact that juicy 3s arnt the flashiest of brakes they will still stop you when set up properly +1 for bigger rotors
