got an SLX crankset on the way as the ISIS bottom bracket on the turbines was doing my head in, aleady gone through one, though it may have been partially my fault. Anyone interested in them? Pics when my new cranks arrive :)

Need some new jockey wheels for my rear mech too.... *sigh* that will be tomorrow probably.

  • nice one cheers.finally i will have a choice of posts. i have busted a few already. i have posted a question list on the forum. i'm glad you are using slx as i want to move away from xtr, the running repairs are just ridiculous. i'm thinking of putting some snow cat rims on my pro hope hubs to get some 3 inch tyres on. the trails round my way are a joke now and just mudbaths so i'm thinking fatter tyres will let me get on top of the mud. at some point i need to get my pace rc41 forks serviced. yeah it is all carbon and sweet. currently ss at mo as i got fed up of xtr ring rip offs. setting up the rear shock is not as easy as one first thinks. there are the basic 3 settings, positive, negative, bounce but there is also a few extra ones that a scott dealer will be trained on. i think there are a few extra like the little hexagon on top and valve relief underneath, my lbs doesn't charge me to set it up. it took quite a while to dial it in to match the forks but when i did..wow. surprised you have gone 1x9. did the chain fall off and that is why you have a retainer?

yeah the slx stuff is good, not ridden on them yet though. I think 3" tyres is a bit overkill though, i definitely wouldn't go over 2.5", those ones are both 2.1, and they're adequate. I doubt 3" will even fit in the frame, and if it does, you'll have zero mud clearance.

The chain guide is there because i never used the granny or outer rings, i find the granny ring to bepretty useless unless you have a low level of fitness, and the outer is only good for big downhills on roads, so i went singlespeed up front just to simplify it a little, if i didn't have the chain guide or a front mech, yeah the chain would have fallen off, but i never rode it like that.

    polyrhythms:
cheers! the pikes are great, loads of adjustments, really versatile and SOOOOO plush!!! best forks i've ever had, bar none. :)

very nice bike, the genius lulls you into a false sense of security and makes you think you are steve peat, but it only adds to the fun, i found that setting the shock softer than recommended works better for me, if anyone else is looking for seatpost shims for scott bikes here is a link http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_ ... cts_id=306

Cheers guys, it's going soon though, as the frame is too small!

Only just found this thread - I've got an MC40 and your mods have proved interesting!
    So what's your new frame?
How did you get on with the 1x9? I was thinking of going 2x9, but hardly ever use the granny ring, so your set-up could be an option for me too...
