im showing off my new (well, 5 months old) toy :)

3997440871_3c4db9908e_b.jpg
(a bit blury im afraid)

its last years allez in an XL with a few bits and bobs attached.
Specialized bottle cages, look Keo easy pedals, cat eye wireless computer, and now these carbon fibre clip-on aero bars...

3998225270_bda7dd0897_b.jpg

ive not used them much but i really rate them. i feel i get down into a nice position with um on. i would like to visit my local TT and give it a crack. im new to cycling, from rowing, so i'd like to see how i'd get on. i know the root so i may go and recky it and let you know how that goes!

by far my favourite purchase are these wheels...

3997452669_7bd669bb0f.jpg

mavic askiums, wrapped in michelin krylion tires :)
i genuinely noticed the different this these on over the standard set up. the aero spokes look the part too. they feel alot smoother. the hill i used to freewheel down during my usual root i'd always hit 28mph, i hit 31mph down it now, and im putting that down to the tire wheel combo!

expensive old business this is isnt it? :) i bloody love buying bits for it though - the girlfriend thinks im a right nutter. ("think of the shoes and handbags!")

i think im sorted now though - just need to develop my riding and give this 10mile TT course a go. im going to stick my neck out now and say i could hit 29 mins :)

Dave.

Glad you are enjoying it. Regarding the TT I think you may be surprised...

haha yeah im pulling ya pursy - id probably be looking at a few mins more than that!
  • I heard you wanna watch out for some half-Italian dude on that TT course - he'll leave you in his smoke!

    Aero bars look cool son...
  • I've just bought a pair of aksiums, and concur completely.
Took all of a coupla minutes to realise the improvement over the 'stocks' on my bike.

If I can just throw in my 3p worth.

The aero tt bars look great- when you are riding in a time-trial.

Any other time they don't look so great. They look wrong, in fact. Sorry, but it's true.

Bit like rotating your handlebars up skywards-similar visual effect.

People who watch Jeremy Kyle do this to their bikes. Please take them off as soon as the novelty has worn off. Your own reputation depends on it.

He's not got the stem down below the top spacer yet. There is time yet for experimentation.

Profile Design bars do have very high arm rests as well. I have Profile Design X Carbon tri-bars with F22 arm rests on my Giant. The combination of the Giant's relatively high front end and the height of the pads over the base bar means that I'm nowhere near my optimal aerodynamic position.

When you get that number on your back it does things to you.

...and whilst you've got the Allen keys out to remove the tri-bars, you can put the saddle in the correct position too  Seriously - most saddles when positioned correctly should be horizontal - too much angle is just pushing your weight forward and onto the soft tissues on the nose of the saddle which in the long terms can damage your 'masculinity'

these are generally more versatile than a one piece aerobar and also MUCH less expensive and there is a good market for them i think. i guess i wasn't looking to achieve my optimum angles in aerodynamics as a beginner posting in the beginners section. spending hundreds on one piece bars, rocking up to a TT as a beginner and putting in a 31.35 - now THAT would make me look a twit.

If you are beginner, get using the drops rather than the Tribars. Although TBH you'll probably go faster using the drops when the Tribars are higher than the saddle.

i'd have thought tri bars are the more comfortable option surely? over 30 mins?

    He's commenting on the picture appears to be show the bike not being set up in a way that makes you the most aerodynamic. See piccies here;
    http://images.google.co.uk/images?sourc ... a=N&tab=wi

    Compared to your set up
I don't think they're made to be comfortable just 'aero' otherwise you'd see 'em in le tour etc.

Yeh wouldn't worry about it mate but i would probably get rid o' those bars though but that's just me. Sloping top tube with t.t bars set up like that just seems a waste of time........Again it's my opinion and i'm keeping it :P Let us know how ya get on :) 8)

30mins? Comfortable? It's all about Aero and Power over short distances, not comfort.

Welcome to the road forum ;)

Soon you will become a griller and not a grillee...

You know you've truly become at one with your inner road-nazi when you tell your 2 year old to HTFU and get on with it when she falls off her trike.

    No. Oooooooooh no.

    And definitely not the last.

The put-down comments on this forum BTW are generally made by people who are decent but the temptation to take the pi55 is just so enormous.

Especially when they are provided with such a quantity of ammo, like you gave them.

    ;)
