Mavic Aksiums w/ 105 9 speed cassette ADVICE

Took delivery of a pair of askiums today to replace the standard wheels.
Due to a certain amount of impatience on my part, i then headed off to my LBS to buy a 9 spd cassette.
They kindly fitted it (as i couldn't be bothered to pay for the chainwhip / removal tool)
When i got home and checked the wheel i noticed some lateral play in the cassette, the first 5 gears which are "all in one" and the same play in the remaining 4 gears, which are "free" from the main cassette.
Checked the old wheels and there's no play whatsoever.
The play is about a mil or so.
Should i be worried about this?
TIA

Mavics should be used with a spacer IIRC (although I thought that this was only for 10sp?) How odd.

There shouldn't be any lateral play.

    Hi,

With the wheels there should be a small disc (spacer) that goes into the freehub before the cassette. It should be like the one shown in the link below

  • Yep, both right.
The spacer was/is there, between 1st and the spokes.

you shouldn't have any play with the spacer in there then.

  • Perhaps the LBS just haven't tightened it enough then?
