Scott bikes

Went to my LBS this morning and was looking at the bikes they had in their shop. They sell Scott bikes, look really nice, I was asking the guy about it, and the one I was looking at (I don't have the model name) had an alloy frame. Is this a good option? I have read somewhere else that alloy frame have a 5 years guarantee (http://www.whycycle.co.uk/bike_jargon_b ... materials/). Any info would be appreciated as I am planning to replace my old Trek 470 next year, using the C2W scheme. Many thanks

Yes, Scott has an excellent reputation but there are many others out there that are good as well. It's very difficult recommending any particular bike for someone. Best to test ride as many as possible and you may find you like one or two much better than the others. I'd have to write a books worth of info to help you determine what is the best frame, style, groupset, wheels etc. but the best bike for you is the one you enjoy riding the most. It will help you quite a bit to narrow your criteria such as how much do you want to spend, what type of riding will you be using it for, do you prefer comfort or speed or a compromise, do you need mounting holes for a rear rack and mudguards, is the colour important, etc. You can also read the "Bikes & Gear" link at the top of the page to see some reviews. I'm guessing just about any new bike will be a big improvement over your old Trek 470. Sorry I don't have much else to offer but I hope you find a bike that you'll enjoy. 8)0

Like crank said, Scott bikes do have a great reputation, ESPECIALLY for their carbon models, which are extremely light and affordable even in the mountain bike range. Depending on what you are willing to spend, jumping to one of the carbon base models such as the Scale 35 or the Spark 35 will give you more room for improvement in the future, as you get only get so light with aluminum. Many people have problems with carbon mountain bikes but, having experience with them, as long as you don't drop them on a rock, they will do a great job.0

I have an alloy scott roadbike, Speedster S50 with an alloy frame and it is a pleasure to ride. the new ones now have hydroformed joints so look even nicer now. good dependable ride quality, the geometry is really nuetral and you really feel in control, hope this helps.0

Thanks guys, the one i saw in the shop yesterday was £799, the only thing is I will have to wait until March 2010 for the C2W scheme to kick in. I don't have any intention to spend anymore than that, at my current level this will be more than enough and compared to my old Trek 470 it probably will feel like I am jumping from a Ford fiesta to a nice BMW...

They seem to do okay for Mark Cavendish & the Columbia HTC team.Cycling weakly0

Get on it and ride it. And ride some others. That's the only way to find out if you really like it. I was surprised at how different bikes felt. I ended up buying a Felt F75 based on the test ride (I hadn't considered one before getting on and having a ride).0

Shame I have to wait until March 2010, my LBS has the Scott Speedster S30 at £699 right now on clearance (Shimano 105 with 20 or 30 speed).

As you say they also come with fat boy triple set up and mine has proved good value and no need to have to wait as it is a 2009 model.Boyo on a bike
