creaking BB's

Sorry if it has been covered before
My bottom bracket has started creaking...do I need a new one?
Shimano XT external bearing if makes any difference.

    maybe or it might just need tightening.

    They generally 'rumble' and feel rough if they are worn out. The driveside cup needs to be pretty tight - about 60lbs through a 6-inch wrench - but creaks are almost always due to lack of lubrication. Use grease, anti-seize or blue Loctite on the threads and wherever there is metal-to-metal contact.

    A quick fix is to saturate it in chain lube YMMV.
