  • If you've still got 3 chainrings up front I don't think this will be of any use to you.

I have yes.. Can any one show me one that will be of use pls?
  • Question is, why do you feel the need for one? Not trying to be difficult, just my impression was you shoudln't really need one with "3 up front"... Someone might correct me though! :?:

Well I had never thought about it until the other day, I was at my LBS and the bloke i was talking to mentioned it as could see my chain had been hitting my frame. I do have a lizard skin on it but thought a tensioner might help.... If i am wrong I shall just leave it as i wasn't fussed before.
So should they just be used when only having the 2 up front then?
  • the lizard skinz can be a bit thin, check your chain length in the big big combo and possibly take a link out of the chain if there is too much slack.

The use an old inner-tube to protect your frame, much better than a proper frame protector.

i dont think there is too much slack, it can just slap the frame when riding over bumpy terrain so though maybe the tensioner would be of use.
Thanks for the advice guys, saved me a few pennies

I have this on my bike - it fits round the chainstay so you don't need to worry about BB fixings. I also found it helps keep the chainstay protector in place if you have one.

  • mechs will slap and jump about, even with a chain tensioner. The only way to avoid it is to go singlespeed or run hub gears or a gearbox bike.
