I've searched high and low and can't find anything about this...

All I want to do is grease the legs - they've just got a bit 'stictiony'
Surely I just need to slide the sliders off and get greasing, but with compressed air and ETA cartridge in one leg, and coil and oil in the other - how the hell to I take them apart?!?

Any help gratefully recieved

Thanks

J

let the air out. remove the top caps, poor the oil out. remove the foot nuts. separate the forks.

have a look in the tech links sticky for a manual link.

    Thanks for the summary nicklouse.

I've checked the on-line manual - and it steers well clear of any fork stripping subjects.

So to expand slightly..... how does this sound?

Right leg - let out air - take off top cap.... what happens to the damping gubbins?
Left leg - take off ETA knob - take off top cap - remove coil and oil... what happens to the ETA cartridge... does it slide out with the top cap?

Then take the foot nuts off both legs... and slide off.

So having cleaned everything and stuck a bit of grease on the legs - I simply rebuild it all and replace the oil... am I right in thinking its 7.5 wt fork oil, I guess I just replace however much I pour out...?

    Does that seem about right?

    Thanks for you help

    Hi mate ,

I used to service my MX comp ETAs on a regular basis.

Its easy, as Nick says let the air out, remove ETA knob, washer and o ring then the top caps (22mm socket if I remember correctly).

I found it easiest to drain the oil by removing the lower nuts. The best way to do this is to slacken off the nuts a couple of turns then give them a tap upwards with a soft faced mallet (the oil should now start to drain). Once the oil has drained completely remove the nuts and then seperate the lower legs .

Don't worry about the damper gubbins (I think you mean ETA cartridge) nothing will fly apart. There's nothing to it as long as you dont start trying to take the actual ETA cartridge apart. They're very reliable forks in my opinion and its easy to see why when you take them apart. There's very little to them hence there's very little to go wrong.

You'll end up with three parts the uppers, lowers and ETA cartridge assembly.

Your correct you need 7.5wt oil, Marzocchi recommend 135cc in each leg for 100mm forks.

    Thanks DD,

This is just what I need to hear - all the various Marzocchi dealers would have us believe that its rediculously tricky and should only be done by authorised dealers at a cost fo £80 plus postage.

My only concern is mine are MX pro, and so have air/oil/damping in one leg and the ETA cartridge/coil in the other. But I guess being an 'open bath' the damping is just an elaborate piston sliding up and down the fork leg.

Anyway, how difficult can it be!?!?

    Thanks for your help.

    here are some "standard" internals

the red spring is an ETA side and the other is an HSCV leg.

    Cobba,

    You're a genius!

I've searched hi and low for this - and you've found EXACTLY what I need.

Thankyou for your help - I can tackle my forks with a half a clue as to what I'm doing.

Here's to the Bike Radar Forum.....! What a font of info it is..
