They would be no use here today......I've never seen so much rain in my life!!!

Umm ... why do you want different wheels in the rain?
Why is one set of wheels more suitable for winter than another?

Because the winter is more detrimental(?) more likely to come off, more salt on the roads and not everyone could afford to by a 500 pound set of wheels every year or 2
