Which Jersey suits the non-whippets ?

I am having difficulty finding a suitable jersey to fit me nicely.
I know the sizes of cycling garments are traditionally on the "snug" side but some of the stuff I have tried is ridiculous.
I am 5'8" and a tad under 13 stone. I always find that fitting acorss the chest is no problem, usuallya large is sufficient but that the fitting around my waist/hips/backside is always way too tight. I am a 34" to 36" waist so not exactly huge by any standards.
My question is can anyone recomend a jersey that is a bot less snug than normal without looking like a tent ? I am ideally looking for one that is not too garish and can be used for both MTB and road and is S/S.
Any help gratefully received.

I have several of the Generic s/s tops from Decathlon. I'm about your size and wear a large from them, I think. snug without being "roadie snug" if ou know what I mean. And cheap as chips.
they also do long sleeved "freeride" tops that are not tent like but looser than their normal tops.
really you need to try some on till you find the cut that suits, but Decatlon might be a decent place to startEverything in moderation ... except beer
Beer in moderation ... is a waste of beer
If riding an XC race bike is like touching the trail,
then riding a rigid singlespeed is like licking it
... or being punched by it, depending on the day0 -

I know trying them on is the best route but have been trying to avoid trekking around the bike shops as it makes me drool too much !!!I ride therefore I am0 -
Hi, you`re a similar size to me and I have similar trouble with long sleeve jerseys but not short sleeved ones, just don`t get ones that say "form fiting". Specailized jerseys are good also Montane cadence jersey in the medium cos it`s huge and I have a bicycle line jersey which is quite loose fitting.Smarter than the average bear.0
