Alternative for XTR chain

I have fitted an xtr chain for the first time (ever) thinking that the quality would be so much better than cheaper versions!!!!!!!! well today I spilt the chain to clean it then re-joined it as I have done a million times before on other chains, 6 miles into a ride it snapped at this very point, when repairing the chain I noticed that the plates deform a massive amount when fitting a new pin, I have never noticed this on any other 8/9 speed chains before, I switched to a sram chain on my other mtb but the shifting is definately not as slick, are there any other chains out there that are good quality, work well with Shimano and have a similar conecting link to sram (far better way to join a chain)
Cheers R
Ps it appears ok now but I am very wary over how long it will last!

just fit a new Sram chain."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

yep, used 9 speed con pin, its just the outer plates are so thin compared to a 7/8 speed they seem to deform very easily, not impressed, in the past I have even re joied a chain with the pin that came out and never had a problem, so which sram chain works best with xtr, cant remember what ive got on the xt kit. CRC have pages of chains KMC etc are these any good????????????0

any 9spd one.
or get another XTR and use a Sram power link."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I'd go KMC over anything SRAM have to offer.0

i'd go for kmc too, although have no personal experience od Sram chains, just shimano ans kmc, (advice from lbs though)
the x9 series are the ones to go for,
parkers are doing the x9L - Gold for £25 at the mo,
ebay has many of them around the 30 mark or a lil higher if you want the SL version, (silver ones are cheaper but dont look as blingy hahahah!)Timmo.

You can't just reuse a pin on most 9 speed chains. On Shimano you need http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... odelID=186 which is the special pin that they make. It's far easier to go with a power link http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... odelID=871
The Sram and KMC are both good as long as you buy one for a 9 speed chain and will fit Shimano chains. If you do decide that you don't want your 6 mile old XTR chain, I'll gladly dispose of it for you0
