sealey stw101 will do you for the majority of cycle torques (5-25nm)
  • I've got one of these, does the job spot on and the allen keys are really good quality.

I've got the same one as the fighting cat (albeit Giant branded) and it is good. Used it to build my MTB and also use it on my Defy Advanced to ensure I don't crush any carbon bits. Worth every penny

Personally I'd say stay well clear of the BBB, maybe mines a dodgy one but it doesn't always click when it reaches the correct torque which is about the worst thing a torque wrench can do. The hex bits are also a bit iffy, nowhere near the same quality (tolerance-wise) as Park hex keys. I managed to round a crank bolt with, OK maybe I wasn't being overly careful but Park hex keys fit so snugly you couldn't round something if you tried, the BBB ones are noticeably slacker so can move about if you're not careful and round.
I haven't convinced myself a £120 torque wrench is worth it yet (mostly use a Ritchey torque key) but I no longer use my BBB one.
  • ^^hmm, was going to get one, so not sure now, any other ideas folks

I got a Sealey STW1012 from Classic Car World, about £31 delivered. Seems excellent, does 2-24nm, came with individual calibration test cert. Got a set of Halfords Professional hex bits for £15 (despite the shop, these are of very good quality).
  • I've just bought a BBB one and it's fine so far!

I have also been looking for a good and reasonably priced torque wrench and just ordered one too.

    Cheers

Im looking for a torque wrench too but Im looking for one to install a Shimano BB. Is there an attachment you can buy that fits the external BB cups?

I have a normal BB tool but have no Idea what torque im putting in. Don't know if this matters too much when installing BBs ?
  • The Only way I know you can do it is by attaching a torque wrench to the end of the BB Spanner and then using a torque calculation to work out what the required setting is,

or just do it up tight.

This might be what you need: http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/bicycle-w ... tools.html

I watched the mechanic at my LBS fit my BB last week and he had a tool like this that went on his torque wrench so might be what you are after?

Ah awesome thats exactly what I need. thanks.
  • The GoCycle by Ritchey is fixed at 5Nm - which is all I ever need.

One of the most handy tools I own.

My new Kooka Race stem and Modolo Dumbo bars have made me lose confidence in guestimating torques! So this wrench is a definite buy now, but should I buy the matching Sealey ball-end hex kit for £15 extra?

  • Oh well, ordered the matching set! Wish I had left more time to order as I almost qualified for the free shipping. Perhaps I should have ordered a decent (15mm) spanner for the rear wheel bolts holding the Pylon together...
