I have had a Tacx turbo for a while now and am desperate. Does anyone have trouble setting it up so that it does not have a jerky pedal stroke. I can barely use it.

On mine, that only happens when:

    1. the tyre is under-inflated

    2. the adjuster on the roller has been "tampered with" (we have two bikes that use it).

In the case of 2, there should be a big knob under the lever that brings the roller in contact with the tyre. Turn it clockwise to bring it closer to the tyre.

If neither of those things, what treads have you got on your tyre? Slicker the better, in my experience.

    Hope that helps.

  • Thanks, the wheel is Campag sirocco G3 the tyre is mitchelin pro race. the pressure is.. .well actually I have a flat at the moment! :D when in use, it's at 110psi.

is the roller part supposed to push the tyre in or barely touch it? I've never got it right.

I adjust it so that it "dents" the tyre slightly at the point of contact (as if it was on the road)

  • Mark,

I had the same problem, assuming it's the Fortius you have..

With the help of the Tacx forum - http://tacxforum.ilink.nl/index.php, i found the following sorted it out...

1, No buckle or flats in your rear wheel.
2, Use a Tacx trainer tyre and keep it clean
3, Correct tyre pressure / roller contact (as suggested by pneumatic)
    also
4, Plug the resistance motor directly into its own mains socket, not off an extension or with other appliances sharing the socket.

    hope this helps
  • If ya get a Tacx tyre do ya change it every time you use it or just get another wheel???
  • It would be best to get another wheel but i just change the tyre every time - gives me practice for a back wheel puncture!

I use a Conti orange/yellow turbo tyre which can be hard to get over the rim but after the first few changes it became easier.

Initially with the Fortius i had too little pressure between roller and tyre which caused the tyre to shred lots of orange dust all over the carpet. You need about 3 turns of the adjuster wheel and 100psi - you should see the tyre visibly deformed by the roller. You can do a calibration check to make sure of adequate pressure.

What Tacx turbo are you referring to?
