Can anyone recommend me something good to cover my bike up, I have to keep my best bike outside now as my mum keeps getting oil on her clothes and having a go at me, therefor I cannot keep it in the washouse anymore so need to leave it outside 24/7 and cover it up.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Will.

Just get a cover (an old sheet) and keep it indoors - that'll stop the oil problem (though you keep such a clean bike it is hard to imagine this happening anyway). Leaving it outside is cruel, and it may get nicked.
Alternatively, think about hooks to wall mount it out of harms way, or a pulley system if the ceiling is high.0 -

I do, but I have to keep the chain lubes, my mums chucked all my tools in the garden, she's got oil on quite a few of her clothes and blaming it on me, I take the bike out when she asks, I've got it cramped up in a shed that is absically like outside in it, it's gonna get battered. I'm moving back to Manchester lukilly on Saturday but untill then I have to have it outside. My mum's a nutcase that's the reason.
Hook, pulley, that'd not be allowed, that'd be destroying the washouse.
Oil is just one of those things the devil invented was it not? I wish it was like brown sauce or something, easilly washes out0 -
Well you can bag up the tools and lubes easy enough, you can keep them in the shed (or in your bedroom). You need to "build bridges" with mum, get her back on side, show her you will take scrupulous care not to let your oil contaminate anything. Use your negotiation skills!
Alternatively, if that doesn't work at first, ask her if the contents insurance will cover your bike stored in a shed! Get her quotes for bike insurance, ask her nicely to buy the insurance before implementing the "storing bike in shed" debacle. Be a bit manipulative - she's been your mum for years, you should know how to pull the right strings.0 -
oh, and you can put a plastic carrier bad around the chainset and rear mech.0
-
Worst case, get a bike box and store it in there.0

punch her in the face.0

My mum is a nutcase, she's gone in the head, negotiation does not exist in her "world"
I've got it locked up in this emtal shed, unfortunatly to open the shed all you need to do is use a screwdriver, and the way the bike goes in it's prone to damage and that's the only place it can be stored apart from outside. kinda sucks really, especially when the bike is worth more than some of the cars in the street... I'll be in trouble for damaging the shed too, as the bikes struggle to fit in and dent the outer walls.0 -

I keep mine in my bedroom with one of them on ^^^^^
No problem with oil damage.
If that doesn't work take Infamous' advice!!!!0 -
Will,
If she keeps getting oil on her clothes, buy her some trouser clips or tell her to stop riding your bike.
Or you could move out..... :shock:Head Hands Heart Lungs Legs0 -
Keep it in your bedroom.0

Wash house ? Outside ? Its grim up north isn't it ? There are electrical retail shops like Currys, Comet etc that sell electrically operated washing appliances. Time to get rid of the wash house, mangle and scrubbing board and join in the electrickery washing revolution. Tumble dryers are also available, but one step at a time, eh?0 -
She's a mother - she should know how to get oil out of clothes. I keep imprinting my chain wheel on a nice pair of tan coloured trousers everytime I pointlessly decided to move the bikes around before going out into town or suchlike and even I can manage to get the marks outFaster than a tent.......0

The bike was kept in the wash house! I even got told off for getting the top of the boiler dirty!!!!!!!
So how do you remove oil?
pottssteve, I'll gladly move out, but I can't afford it!!! :shock:0 -
Be aware: if your bike is insured (via your parents house policy or otherwise) you should check your policy, because you will probably not be covered if your bike is left outside. Most policies seem to say that it must be locked up (in a shed or house).0

Doesn't your mum love you ?0

She said sorry about yesterday, I'm going to invest in some ear plugs for the next time she has a go.0

Last time I was in Aldi they still had some bike lifts in stock. Might be worth a look. you could store it on your ceiling.0
