Hands and gloves

I have a problem on every ride with my fingers going numb. I have tried various positions and gloves (Specialized seem to be the best so far), but at some point I can barely feel my fingers. I have been riding for over three years and most of my rides are solo. When I ask friends or local shops for advice, I really haven't recieved any advice/suggestions that seem to help. I appreciate any suggestions.

  • Try relaxing your grip slightly?

How hard do you have your front tyre pumped up?

  • I do keep the tires up, about 100-110, roads are pretty smooth. I do move my hands into different positions and try to keep a relaxed grip. it seems the worst with my pinkies and thumbs. I ride anywhere from 40 to 60 miles (still working towards 100 miles) and I seem to start feeling numbness after 10 miles.

I believe that this problem is generally caused by the rider supporting too much of his weight on the bars. The majority of your weight is supposed to rest on the saddle and your hands and arms are only for bike control, not weight support. I have seen more than a few people who, for whatever reason, have their saddle pointed downward at the nose. This causes you to slide off the saddle, toward the bars, instead of sitting on it, and then having to use your arms, chest, shoulders, and hands to keep you on the bike.
Very tiring to say the least and a lot of pressure on your hands. Try raising the seat nose to at least a level position, in relation to the rear, and possibly slightly up.This will help force you to SIT with most of your weight on the saddle. You also could be a bit to "stretched out" toward the bars(too long of a stem) and no amount of saddle adjustment will allow the majority of you weight to be on the saddle.
