I'm having a few difficulties setting up my new Pikes.
On the big bumps they are great, but I'm really struggling to set them up for smaller bumps, for example one of my normal routes ends with about 500m of a straight bumpy track - there's no big ruts just lots of small bumps (probably similar to riding down a cobbled street) I actually had to stop half way through the section because my palms hurt so much from the jarring.

First I Set them up with exactly as the manual instructed for my weight, and gave the rebound knob about 2 full turns from the slowest setting. Since then I've tried dropping both + and - pressure in stages to about 15-20 psi less than recommended which is better and I also reduced the rebound so its only 1 turn from it's slowest setting, which has improved overall ride, but still not made much difference to small bumps.

I have to be honest I don't fully understand the negative pressure setting - perhaps if I reduce this so it is lower than the positive?

Could it be a case of they're just not bedded in yet (only done about 50miles on them)??

other info:

Rider is a tubby 13.5 stone

Front tire pressures is 35psi (lowest recommended for Maxxis Minion DH)

Bike is 2009 Marin Wolf Ridge.

There is a guide in the FAQ on set up for the air chambers.

Very likely they need some more bedding in. I would try 10psi more in the negative chamber than the positive chamber - this increases the initial sensitivity of the fork.

Also try backing off the compression damping. This may however cause the forks to dive more when braking.

Faster rebound helps the fork deal with succesive hits.
  • Thanks Supersonic - sorry I missed the FAQ  only did a search for Pike, my bad.
will start again using the advise.
