Shifting, dumb question?

Hi
I have tried indexing my gears as my LBS could not be bothered doing it for me after a cable change and service and I think its ok but need to check something.
I have 2008 LX shifters and if you want to go up a gear and you press the lever it always shifts up 2 sprockets, i tried pushing half way and it will not shift that great.
Is this normal to shift 2 gears?
If not will have to take to another LBS.
Thanks guys.

no it is not. sounds like too much cable tension."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

So if I press all the way down it should only go up one gear.
Looks like I got to pay twice for a job the LBS should have done.
They keep telling me..... Its the nature of the beast, :? I looked at him funny and said did not think it was supposed to change two gears.
Thanks nick, will take to sunset or damien harris.0 -
Or simply wind off the barrel adjuster in 1/8 of a turn increments until normal shifting is resumed...........2006 Giant XTC

Thanks dude, will try do it.
Maybe I should take to another LBS anyway, as had a couple other probs0 -
This is really minor stuff really - adjusters are there because sometimes things need readjusting.
I'd learn how to do it!0 -
I have deore shifters on my bike and the thumb trigger does shift two gears if you push it all the way through with two noticable clicks - you can sjift one with a lesser throw of the lever. The finger trigger only does one change per click.
This is normal.
If you are in doubt, flick all the way down to the smallest rear cog, then undo the nut holding the cable in place at the rear mech, pull cable tight (without moving the rear mech from its natural sitting position, retighten nut holding cable. All things being equal it should work smoothly.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0 -
Sorry are we talking about the limit screws on the mech or the lever adjusters?0

Assuming the limit screws are set correctly, then the barrel adjusters.
But as mentioned above, on standard rear mechs, moving to a larger rear cog the thumbshift can have 3 clicks in one large press to change rapidly through the gears.0
