Not sure what speed Mirage is but
Campag 10 speed shifters will shift shimano 8 with a shimano rear mech and 9 speed if you hubub the cable (easy to do) it will also shift shimano 10 with a capag rear mech.

My Hewitt has campag shifters with Shimano gears and works well, he rates the Campag shifters for touring bikes, I've had my Cheviott three years now and it works well.

I run 10spd Veloce shifters with an otherwise 8spd Shimano drivetrain, with no modifications. Shifts better than the Shimano shifters ever did.

If I remember correctly the Hewitt has a 9 speed block and if Hewitts are selling bikes with this set up then I believe it's a gold seal of approval because they have such a good name as a bike builder they wouldn't risk tarnishing their reputation with a system that didn't work.
