Do i need one? As you can see I am new to the sport. Would you say that it would, with time, improve my cycling (regarding cadence and speed)? If so, could you recommend a couple (bearing in mind that my budget has started to run out... )
Thanks

They're useful for distance, average speed, ride time etc. Personally, I wouldn't ride without one (except pub/shop trips).

You can spend loads, but don't have to. Cadence function seems to push the price up (especially if you want wireless) - but this is only on the few I've looked at. Others may be able to suggest some bargains.

I've got a Cateye Micro Wireless (about £35) on mtb and Trek Incite Link (£60) on road bike - both give me everything I need.

Halfords do own-brand versions that seem perfectly okay, and are nice and cheap.

  • I have a catseye anda halfords own brand. Halfords isn't as sleek and good looking but I like it a lot better, it does more and is cheaper.
  • When you have one, then you'll never be able to imagine life without one.
  • Thanks guys, I will take a look at Halfords. Saw this one at Evan on their website, looks like it does everything too (http://www.evanscycles.com/products/tre ... gn=froogle), any feedback? Thanks

The Topeak 140 does pretty much all you want incl cadence. Halfords knock em out for about £30.
