Cleat replacement.

Hi all...

I have the yellow SPD-SL cleats...the ones with a bit of float...when should they be replaced? The yellow plastic is coming off of my left cleat as that is the one I always detach at lights etc... Should I just keep tightening the release tension on my pedal to compensate or is the yellow plastic supposed to be used as an indicator?

Is it possible to change the cleats over between the shoes as there is virtually no wear on the cleat from my right foot? I have used them without changing them since January so they have been well worth the £16 I spent on them to do 8 months and a few thousand miles!

  • A bit earlier then I replaced mine (for look Keo). One of mine stopped clipping in half way through a 60mile clubrun... I found that I noticed it had a bit more float then it should have done before it went so that might be a common indication that a new one will be needed.

I think the yellow bits are rubber protectors for the cleat, and as such are a wear indicator.
The actual cleat is black, and as long as this is in good condition I would continue to use it.
    Hope that helps....

Lovely..thanks....the black bit is a little worn but I will tighten the tension and see if that helps.
