Im looking to upgrade from my recon oil/coil forks on my scott mc40 they are 85-130mm.
what would be the best fork i could put on my bike with £250 to spend i do alot of riding at thetford but then some in devon with big hills and have just got home from afan so its pretty much all mountain ridind i do.
I like the ones ive got set at 130mm but could i use 140 with out upsetting frame design,do i use air do i stick with oil and coil .
Ive just upgraded my wheels the hubs are hope pro 2 which i believe i can fit 15 or 20 mm axles into so is it worth getting these larger axles also??
PLEASE HELP.

what dont you like about the recons? (which version are they?).

and what are you really trying to do?

    damping/weight or what change?

  • Not going to get much better than what you have for £250 onless you buy secondhand.
Save up a bit more and you could get some RS Revelations?
Air is lighter,if weight is an issue, and easily tweakable coil a bit smoother, and no potential problems with air seals.
What`s wrong with the current forks, though and what do you want to improve?

  • the forks i have are coil and spring i believe with a medium sprimg as standard thet are adjustable from 85-130mm they are called recon 351 does that help.
im looking for somthing a bit better buying second hand up tp to £250 or should i stay with what i have like i said before i do a bit of everythimg on the bike .

You won't get a better fork for the money really than what you have.

If you never wind your current fork down, these are worth a look http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=41564

  • Sometimes you can get better performance out of a pair of forks by making sure they are regularly serviced and nice and plush. If they haven`t been serviced for a while, and are feeling a bit sticky, send them off to TF Tuned or if you are fairly competent mechanically,do a service on the lowers yourself.

I love my recons, I have Mangura menjar on my my other bike, and although they are good I prefer the recons.

Can't see you get any better for the money.
It's not a ornament, so ride It
  • ok looks like its time for me to get the spanners out on my recons
