Hi, I have recently picked up a Boardman Pro Hardtail with Reba race forks, problem is that I weigh in at 210 lbs and are finding the shock bottoms out on any serious tracks. I have not been able to find out the max air setting allowed for these shock and Halfords, where I bought the bike have so far been unable to advise. I have both the pos and neg air set at 160psi and I am not sure if I can go any higher. Can anybody help or provide a link to a service/user manual (which Halfords did not provide). Thanks

read the info in the FAQs on setting dual the dual air shocks.

and you will have no probs with the pressure.

  • Hello, I believe i was the person that you spoke to on the phone in Halfords earlier this morning. Sorry i was not of anymore help.

The handbook is available online on the rockshox / sram website, however i do not seem to be able access the website at this time to povide a link.

Did you have any improvement by decreasing the neg air chamber fractionally?

I have searched for the maximum pressure but cannot find a definitive answer, common answers seem to be 220 psi which i quoted earlier. However i am sure someone on here will be able to answer the question.

again, sorry i was not of more help earlier.

theres a pressure list on the fork legs. however they can be 5-10% too much.

The fork indicates that for a rider greater >90kg >200lb a pressure 135+ psi should be used (but its only a guide). Just use whatever pressure you need in order to achieve the correct amount of sag.

As far as I know the fork doesn't have a rider weight limit so I assume it wouldn't have a Pressure limit.

I'm 90KG (198lb) and run 140PSI and have not come close to bottoming out. What exactly are you doing to cause them to bottom out? What do you mean by serious tracks?

Are you sure your shock pump is giving an accurate reading?
  • Hi, thanks for all your help. I have taken a look at the FAQ pages and found a good starting point for set up, this matches the advice from Halfords but i've still not been able to find max psi quoted for this set of forks, maybe I won't need it. Will double check my pump is reading Ok and follow the FAQ advice. Thanks again.

Manual recommends 150 PSI for riders over 99Kg on dual air, 175 PSI for air U-turn and a max of 220 PSI for single air forks.

    Manual here.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
  • Remember it is normal to bottom the forks out once or twice,on each ride.Adjust pressure by measuring sag.Start at around 25% sag,if you are still bottoming ourt frequently go to 20%,but thats a bit too firm for my liking.

i too would like to know the max i can put into reba team dual air 100mm forks. the sram site and the forks themselves make no mention of the max psi the forks can handle. i weigh between 230-240lbs and currently have mine pumped to 175+ 175- but im worried i might blow them.

  • I wouldn't take any real notice of the advised psi on the legs. They are a good rough guide, but don't think my weight is for eample 80kg therefore my psi must be say 150. I'm 65kg advised psi is around 95, and ive got 120psi. My forks (RS Reba SL) bottom out on every ride. I know that sonic wrote a good artcle on FAQ's to set up your forks again and see if that helps.
