Damaged brake pads?

I've been having some problems with my brake pads rubbing on the rotors, so I've been trying to adjust the callipers/pads but without much luck (I'm going to get this sorted under warranty as it seems to be a problem with the frame or brakes themselves).
Having looked at the brake pads, though, the front ones seem to be a little damaged and pitted in parts (the outer one with a strange green residue on it). Over the last couple of days I've noticed a drop in performance, and I have to pull the lever all the way back to get any appreciable stopping power out of them (and they make a rasping noise as I do this). The rotors also seem to have taken some scratching where the pads are rough, though this could just be superficial.
The rear brakes are better I think, but make a horrible screeching sound whenever I pull on them.
I've only had the bike a couple of weeks now, and haven't had the chance to do any real XC riding on it, so I don't know why this should happen :?
The bike is a Cube LTD CC and the brakes are Hayes Stroker Trails. Here are some photos of the front pads:

Difficult to get a good photo that shows exactly what it's like but here's my effort

Hmmm. You can see that the pads overlap the rotor arms by a bit - is there a sharp bit there somewhere, or a bad chamfer?0

Do you mean on the rotor arms/inner edge? It's not chamfered there, and yeah it is a little rough in places.0

I think the the gaps between the arms are cutting that groove. I am not sure what the consequences are. Pretty bad I would imagine (eventually). Nick (our resident tech guru) will hopefully be along soon v#for his opinion.0

looks normal to me.
bits of dirt and grit can also cause "cuts" in the pads.
as can new rotors.
refit align and use.
Also they look like hours old."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
