Hi all,

I have a Rockhopper Pro Disc 2009 [new in May] and was loading it on the car roof the other day when I noticed the outer cog teeth were getting bent :(

Inner two cogs are steel, the outer is alloy. I have had some suspect gear changes where I missed changing in time so I guess this has done it as I normally just ride around normally - woods and road riding.

Does anyone know: -

1. Can I replace the outer cog only or do I have to buy the whole chainset?
2. If I can, anyone know where as I can only find the whole chainset for sale?
3. What is the most likely reason for the teeth bending and will it shag my chain if I don't fix it?
4. Any other advice welcome!

Thanks in advance :)

you can replace any of the rings.

BUT the teeth are shaped to aid gear changing.

  • Thanks, I'll look into it.

On another note, can I change the amount of teeth on a cog to make me go faster? Sometimes when I'm road cycling I'm in top gear - largest front/smallest back, but still feel like I could go faster, that is to say I feel like I'm having to put more work in than I should. Don't know if that makes sense?

    Thanks
