Hi all,
I have my 1st MTB with Disc brakes (Shimano 416, mechanical disc) the only thing is I have not got a clue about Disc brakes at the moment and need a bit of advice.

So my 1st Numpty Question????

I took my wheels off to put the bike in the car and when I have put the wheels back on bike the front wheel is not freewheeling when spun. My assumption was that they should spin freely. :?

So if this is correct and they should turn without any friction, how do realise the pressure on the front brake so they turn with ease?

Thanks Baz :D

you have not seated the front wheel the same as it was before.

re seating yo make sure it is correctly fitted and the rubbing should go.

If not you may need to re set the caliper.

In simple terms assuming you can't just re-seat it, there's a couple of bolts on the top of the brake, if you loosen them a bit it will allow you to move it a little bit to get the positioning right. You just need to look down into it and there should be daylight either side of the rotor.

If that fails do what I did, take out the brake pads and stretch the little metal spring/clamp bit.
  • i had a similar prob yesterday !
You need to unscrew the 2 allen key bolts, then hold down your brake leaver, then tighten up the screws & should be lined up fine! that how my Avid jucy work anyway !

  • if it didnt rub before you removed yr wheels the best way to sort it out is....

put yr wheel back on tighten it up up but before you push yr qr lever closed pull yr front brake then close the lever.

this always works for me

then if it dont work start loosen bolts and adjusting.
