Advice on building up a bike...

Hi

I've just bought a new small '07 frame and a used medium '07 complete bike with upgrades and intend to build up the frame with all the parts of the complete bike. I have done some bike servicing before and am a competent car/motorbike mechanic, but have never taken off a fork or BB/crank etc. What consumable parts should I be looking to change while I'm building it up that's worth doing?

Any other tips greatly received.

The bike is a Norco Six.

Cheers

    read parktools webby.

It will show you how to do it all.

you will need the LBS to do the BB and the headset if you dont have the tools or dont want to buy the tools or make them.

    Some parts may not fit.

and these could be BB/Headset/front mech/seatpost/seatclamp and fork.

you only mention one of the frames.

  • cables and anything that looks worn.

if changing rings do cassette and chain at the same time

may need to remove a few chain links as the frame will be smaller too

 cant think of anything else, tyres ... dunno

it would be a good time to consider changing the bottom bracket/headset/etc. but if they're all in good working order, you shouldn't really need to. other than that, perhaps think about servicing the forks and shock, and make sure the brakes are in good working order. then enjoy!

He wont need to shorten the chain, the cainstays will be the same length unless the new frame is designed for 24" wheels, or he's fitting a shorter cage rear mech or double chainset.
  • Thanks for all your advice...my LBS has sid they'll do it for £60 which I reckon is worth it to get it done properly with the right tools,,,,
