8 Speed cassette on a 7 speed freehub?

I've tried searching for the answer to this, but can't seem to get it nailed.
Some thieving little scrote stole my rear wheel from my 8 speed bike. My brother has given me his old wheel, but its a 7 speed. My plan was to get a new 8 speed cassette, but am not sure if it will fit on the hub. Any thoughts on how I can check?

Won't fit. Unless he was running a 7 speed cassette on a 8/9 freehub body with spacer.0
