I'm swopping my Shimano UG hub with 6 speed for a HG hub with an 8 speed cassette.

Will my Shimano long cage 600 rear mech with friction shifters work with the 8 speed.

Pete.
Its how far !!

    Not a problem.
  • The 6 speed hub is probably 126mm wide (measured on the outside of the locknuts). If so, the frame will also be 126mm.

As the 8 speed hub is probably 130mm wide, it won't fit.

Try a 7 speed HG hub instead as they are usually the same width as 6 speed hubs ie. 126mm.
  • Thanks for the input chaps,

Rick, just measured the dropouts and its 126mm inside , so a 7 speed it will be .

and if you don't want to change the wheel you should be able to just change the freehub body.
