Hi All,

hope someone can help! I am fairly new/returning to MB. I have only this week bought a brand new cube bike which I Love!

Any how the Problem being I used both the quick release levers to take the wheels off to bring the bike back after a cycle last night. I put the bike back together today after some effort and now both the brakes don't work and the wheels hardly turn? Please tell me I have not broke the new bike

Also why is it so hard to put the wheels back on after you take it apart? Is there something you are meant too do with the brakes before/after?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am worried about my new bike

Cheers!

Sounds liek you have puleld the brake levers with the wheel out. You need to push the pistons on the brake back in.

you have moved the brake levers.

you need to push the pistons/pads back into the calliper.

use the pads spacers next time you transport the bike with out the wheels in.

  • Cheers for this :D Ill go out and look right now! Im not too sure where the pistons are as the shop I bought the bike from gave me all the manuals for a different bike!

can I also ask what pad spacers? Are these meant to come with the bike or do I buy them?

    Cheers all!

they are peices of plastic about the same thickness as a disc and stop the pistons from popping out if the lever is squeezed when there is no wheel in there

  • Cheers, thought as much. Ill ask the guys at the store if there meant to be in with all my manuals and parts. Also are you meant to get a kit to bleed the brakes also?

One last questions  should someone sort the brakes for me as im not too sure what im doing, or is it quite simple?

    Cheers guys!

Just to elaborate on whats happened. Most brakes are self adjusting so as the pads wear down the pistons that push the pads move further out to counter-act the wear.

Pulling the brake with no disc in place will make the pistons act as if the pads have worn down and close the gap so much that you either cant get the disc back in or so that the wheel wont turn.

Happened to me a few times when friends/relatives have come to visit, seen the bike on the workstand (without the wheels on) and pulled the brake lever (why the hell do they ALWAYS do it?).

As for bleed kits, they are sold seperatly.
