Hi Guys,

Just recently got hold of a brand new Orbea Onix 08 with the following spec. Really enjoying it and it's a great fit but wondering if I may have paid a bit over the odds for it. I'm afraid I'm not really that clued up on current prices.

I paid £1400 for the following spec.

Frame ORBEA ONIX'08
Forks ORBEA ZICCS AC
Shifters SHIMANO ULTEGRA
Ft Derailleur SHIMANO ULTEGRA
Rr Derailleur SHIMANO 105
Brakes ZEUS PRO SILVER
Cassette SHIMANO ULTEGRA 12/25 10S
Crank SHIMANO R600 34X50
Chain Shimano
Stem ZEUS CAT II
Bars ZEUS CAT II
Post Push Alloy
Saddle SELLE ITALIA XR TRANS AM
Ruedas SHIMANO WH-RS10
Cubiertas VITTORIA ZAFIRO 700X23
Pedals Shiman SPD A-520

I got it from my local SBS and they even said they would happily swap for another bike if I wasn't 100% happy.

As I said it's a great ride but I have a feeling that it should have been slightly cheaper.

Cheers.

sounds like a decent deal to be honest

the 09 orbea onix is a fair bit more expensive, and not all that nice on the eyes.

i got a 08 onix, the black and orange one. with 105 throughout and RS10 Wheels for £1350 last summer.

only difference i can see a alloy seat post, instead of a carbon one,

id say you got a good deal.

Sounds pretty good. My '09 Onix cost me £1k for just the frameset.

Baytt, I'll have to disagree with you - the '09 looks much better than the '08 model :)

Thanks Guys. I rode it into work again this morning, it's such a nice ride. Almost worth losing my old Bianchi!

The service at the LBS was probably worth paying a bit more for, the owner even agreed to meet me after work as I couldn't get there before closing and was going away at the weekend.

Each to their own on the looks but I have to agree that I prefer the more traditional look of the 08 model. Although I much prefer the subtle paintjob on the 09.

Now all I need to do is get rid of an annoying squeek and get some better wheels for the weekend.

    annoying squeak?

defiantly worth upgrading the wheels, just ordered a set of RS80's for my onix,

the tyre's are worth upgrading to ,

chrissz :) each to there own n all that :) , the 2009 onix does indeed look good :) almost like an Orca but a tad more subtle and understated

Are people so insecure they have to get a second opinion AFTER they have bought something? I will never understand the reason behind it? If I wanted opinions on which bike to buy then, I would spend many hours asking questions on forums such as this as to which bike was the best spec, value, etc. But to ask after is just stupid???

To put in the effort of replying to something that is obviously such a wast of time, even stupider!! Jog on and get a life

To be honest I know it is a bit stupid but I had a niggling doubt and wanted a bit of confirmation. I suspect that if people did manage to point out that I could have got a much better deal elsewhere, I would have been able to take this evidence to the shop and they would shaved a bit off.

Think it's either coming from the rear derailleur or hub, it's very faint and only happens whilst peddaling. I have just made an adjustment, will have to see if it's still there on the ride home.

I see nothing wrong with getting a little confirmation and reassurance that you've done the right thing - why so negative? :D

So, You start by trying to put me down, then admit you are stupid :? Hmm! What if people actually told you the truth and said "you've been ripped off" How would you feel then? But because most on here are reasonable, they tell little white lies and say "it wasn't a bad deal" to make you feel better, when in reality they must have seen you coming!! They didn't have big shoes and a spinning bow tie on by any chance did they?

I personally think you paid a bit too much seeing as he probably had that bike sitting there for a while – I would have thought £1300-£1250 or may be even less.

I bet those Ultegra components are 08 instead of 09 as well. You haven’t paid over the odds though and they are good bikes anyway!

Thanks for the honest response, will try and get a better deal next time I go there. I'm afraid I was a bit blase at the time as I had got a little extra than I was expecting on my insurance claim. Like I said though the service was exceptional so probably worth it. It's easy to see all these great deals on the web but nothing beats the service of a good LBS.

Service is very important anyway!!! I would happily pay a bit more for good service.

I wouldn't worry though, the bike is great and if you look at this year prices you have definetely done well! Orbea frames have lifetime warranty too! :)

I've got an Onix Bira(the model done from yours fitted with 105) I would say you've paid slightly above the going rate as my bike was priced at £1400 last year. No matter though the 08 Onix is a great bike, the geometry is the same as the previous Orca so the handling is sharp but they made it with a more compliant weave of carbon so its very comfortable on a long run. Most Orbea owners will also vouch for the bikes climbing abilities and stiffness in the sprints. Customer service is reportedly good with the factory as well, I had knocked off one of the top tube badges by accident and after contacting Orbea to find out where I could buy a replacment they sent FOC a selection of badges for me, all in 3 days!!
