Chainrings problem - advice & help needed!

Two of the bolts on my bike that secure the inner chainring to the outer one have become "threaded" (the bolts can be turned in either direction, but do not get any looser or tighter).

My questions are:

a) Is this still safe to ride until my new bike arrives (10 days time)?

b) Can this be fixed without needing new chainrings?

Thanks,

Rob.

Have you checked that you aren't just turning the nut on the other side? The nut is slotted so you'll need a very large flat screwdriver (or something similar) to hold it while you tighten the bolt with an allen key.

    I hadn't considered that Mister W.

Is that the same on all makes? I can't remember seeing a slotted bit on the inside.

I'm at work now, but will check it out as soon as i get home.

    Thanks!

Oooh, get you with all your posh tools :lol:

AFAIK chainring bolts are the same on all bikes. They're certainly the same on all of mine.

If I had one of these, it's unlikely I'd be asking this question! I am what can be most kindly described as "mechanically-challenged".

Where in West Sussex are you (PM me if you'd rather not let the world know where you live)? You may be near me and I'd be happy to lend a hand with mechanical stuff.
