Gutted!! No Scott Speedster

After doing lots of reaserch on my first bike and having discounted (after trying) a Spez Secteur and Ginat Defy 3, I set my heart on a Scott Speedster S50 from Evans. I ordered the bike on Monday to be sent to the store and they said they will ring me today (Thursday) to let me know it had been built etc.. Got a call today saying they didnt actually have them in stock. I was not best pleased as I was told it would be available.
The other alternative they gave me was a 1.2 Trek, but because of my disappointment over the Scott I am not sure whether this would feel like a '2nd best' bike. I'm not even sure I want to order from them anyway, especially as the assistant said he was only 90% sure he could get the Trek in at the shop.
Not sure whether I should bite the bullet and look at the Trek or go for something else from a different company? I would prepfer to use a LBS so if anyone has any recommendations in the Manchester/ Cheshire area, that would be much appreciated.
Thanks - Nick

Je James. I ordered a 2006 litespeed siena, ultegra build from them, it was listed in stock, but they then said it was out. They then offered me the new 2007 model (the year I got it), which was more money but offered at the original 2006 price, due to the fact it was displayed in stock but had sold.
They are up north, yorkshire I think, not too far, lots of stock and 0% finance as well.0 -

HAHA if they do that now they'll be making major losses! Don't expect them to fall for that this time :P0 -
If you aren't going to be happy with the trek then don't buy it just because you want a bike right now, be patient. Trust me, there will always be another 'bargain' to be had soon as its the very nature of the business...so many different bikes and shops with new stuff always coming out. Only spend your cash when you are getting something you really want.0

Go to Harry Hall's in Manchester, Whitworth Street just off Oxford Road.
Or Bicycle Doctor on Dickenson Road, Rusholme..
They are the two best bike shops in Manchester IMO, and will take much better care of you than Evan's.
Evan's is a shit bike shop, some of their staff are great, but its hit and miss and the management couldn't care less.'07 Specialized Tricross Sport

I wrote to the Evans MD about my wonderful experience using their bike ordering system having paid a deposit and receiving mixed/inaccurate delivery messages from store staff thereafter.
He did not even have the courtesy to respond.
Some may say he never received it. I say, I went to some trouble to find out his name and office address so I could write to him.
Shame, I believe in what they are trying to do and they do carry some good stock.2009 Kona Zing - second ever racer and follows my 5 speed downshifters Raleigh Milk Race of 1987ish :-)0 -
Get the speedster. I've got one and it's a great frame, upgrade a few components as and when and you've got a pretty cracking bike.
Just keep looking - unless you have to use Evans. My lbs is crosstrax in Rodley, Leeds, only an hour from Manchester, they're great and they're Scott specialists, worth a phone call...
Not sure if they sell Scott in Harry Hall's...I work round the corner but not seen any in there. Trek is good but the frame isn't anywhere near as good as the Scott...
Also, Rutland cycling have them in - just try the internet, quick search should throw up a few options. Can't recommend Crosstrax any higher though.0 -
Sorry to hear that mate.
Definitely get the bike you want. Don't settle for something else, I think I'd regret it myself.0 -
2 Stores in Sheffield, about 1 - 2 miles from train station. Great stores, loads of history in the city as a bike shop. Been there for years.2009 Kona Zing - second ever racer and follows my 5 speed downshifters Raleigh Milk Race of 1987ish :-)0

UPDATE: I went to another bike shop to have a look at the Speedster, but unfortunately it was still at the full price of £750. I also had a look at the Trek 1.2 which I was not really keen on. I rang Evans to get my £50 refund back on the bike they could not supply as they had sold the last one in the company. However, I also enquired as to why they were still showing the Speedster as in stock on their website. They said non were available so after speaking to the manager and after ringing round some of their stores, they 'miraculously' found one in a store down south. They are having it sent up to my local store for me to have a test ride of.
In the end, being persistent seems to have paid off.0 -
