Rear shock length issues

Howdy.
I'm in need of a new rear shock due to major clunking on the top-out, and want to upgrade. Measurement of my existing shock (in frame), eye to eye is 185mm. This length of shock seems a bit thin on the ground - can I replace with a 190mm or even 200mm? Or will this cause problems?

185 Fox floats are available from Chain Reaction here.
Not sure what the effect of a longer shock would be, possibly less reactive to small bumps as you're effectively pre loading it.

Could you perhaps get your existing shock serviced?

  • Thanks. Yeah I saw that one on CRC but was hoping to pay a little bit less - they have some good deals on other fox/manitous at moment but they're a touch longer and wondered if I could take advantage.
Existing shock is fairly poor kit so don't want to service it really, want to upgrade.

it will mess up the geo, it may cause part to come into contact that should not do so and it may not even fit.
