Got a problem when im in granny ring and small sprocket @ rear chain slips on rear cassette under pressure. Put new chain on same problem, plugged in different wheel and newish cassette, same problem...!
Whe I removed cassette noticed some gouge marks on the cassette barrel, but i dnt think its enough to cause rear cog to spin

any ideas

! you should not be using that combo.

for the cog to slip on the body you would have to lose all the splines in that area.

does it happen in the middle or big ring?

  • hiya m8 thx for reply, it happened in middle ring too yeah
I've removed cassette and looks like when i fit a new1 there will be a small ammount of play between the small sprockets and cassette.
Presumably thisisn't good and i shud try and get a new cassette body...??? They are Pro II's, same problem on my Pro III's as well..!

What cassette is it? Hope recommend you use the XT with the alloy carrier to stop gouging.
  • Yeah was XT,
Iv'e just had another look and i'm sure the cassette cogs haven't spun on the body, there's gouging but no marks afterwards to suggest they have spun.

Have got a new XTR cassette but haven't put it on because wasn't sure about the gouging, think it would create a litte bit of play on the free smaller cassette cogs.

Is this type of gouging common? do u think i shud replace b4 fitting new cassette?
