Took the plunge with the new bike, and went for clipless pedals, having had a fear of them for months.

So, read on the forum everyone advising other 'oh, you're bound to have a couple of accidents early on' and I'm thinking, na, how daft would you be to fall off.

So out for a 20 mile run last night, and passed a mate walking the dogs, so, braked hard, swung around and cruised up to him for a yarn. Came to a standstill, and must have thought I was on the old Raleigh with the toes clips, cause next thing I know the bikes keeling over, I land on my side, and somehow end up on my back, lying like a cochroach with hands still holding the bars, feet clipped in and the brand spanking Spesh Elite pointing in the air upside down!

Only damage done to my pride!

Lesson learnt!

 thing is. love them, wish i'd done it ages ago. Just makes it seem so much easier than the old toe clips (cycling not stopping that is!)

Make sure the tension is not so high that you can't clip out quickly in an emergency; 99 times out of 100 you'll have plenty of time but sometimes you'll need to react quicker than normal.

Always a good idea to ride around an empty car park or whatever until you are ready. Just clipping in, unclipping, cliiping in, unclipping etc. do it enough and it becomes second nature. When I started I just rode backwards and forward on 100 metres of road, just in - out, in - out.....

If you have access to a turbo trainer you can practice on that too with no fear of falling off..;-)

Yes, i know, i know, in fact i kinda am getting used to them, and think ive the tension sorted ok, just on this occassion had been speeding along 'in the zone' so to speak, and when pulled over just clean forgot i was on the clipless (the other bike has toe clips)

Good trick by the way, riding backwards and forwards on the 100 mtres
