I'm thinking of changing my old HT to SS but don't know if I will cope with just the single,so I thought about putting a double on the front and a single on the back to give me another option, has anyone done this and was it ok

why? you lose any real benefit as you need to keep the rear mech.

if you want to know if you can manage select a 2:1 ratio and just dont change gear for a week.

then the following week try a different ratio etc...

  • Well I think it's the best thing ever !
I run a 34 17. So much fun from fat spinning to serious hills
max speed is around 16 mph on a 2-1 ratio but you can get up almost any hill

    good luck

32:16 i find is easier to try than 34-17 as you have a few more options for rings etc. And most people already have a 32 ring on their triple!

Presumably you get better chain wrap with a 34-17 but i've never had slippage with any of mine apart from when the freehub/wheel dies.
