Can I: Swap my formula rotors for hope floating?

Hi folks - I've not long bought a new bike, Lapierre spicy 516. I'm very pleased with the performance of the formula brakes - super controlled/modulated but I'm looking for a little more power for the big decents. Don't want tot fork out for a whole new brake system - seems OTT but I've been looking at the hope floating rotors and have heard good things.

Is there any reason/s why I can't/shouldn't use a different rotor with my current brakes (Formula Oro K24's)

Thanks!

well just changing to the same sized disc will do nothing to increase power.

what are the current disc sizes?

Ah - yes sorry didn't clarify.

I have 180 discs currently, I'm looking to put a 200 or 203 on the front (whichever size they come in). Namely for the power but also for better cooling too (and I heard the hope floating rotors were particulary good at handling the heat).

My question concerns the compatibility between the rotor and and caliper from the different companies - would this cause a problem or is it a simple plug in and go?

The braking surface width can vary between manufacturers.

Can you not upgrade to larger formula rotors ?[/code]

  • Hello mate i wanted the hope m4 tech brakes on my lapierre zesty 714. 203/183 rotors which looked amazing when fitted by a bike mechanic in afan. But major probs....I got to the bottom of the first run, looked down at my front rotor and all the red anodised had rubbed off..gutted..when i took it back to mechanic it appered that the brake caliper was rubbing on the fox 32 float fork mount. Because our wheels come with the xt deore 15 mm hub they are too far over so nothing can be done..if you hear any diffrent please let me know..

I too experienced very slight rubbing from hope floating rotors on the OEM front hub from my Marin Wolf ridge, when used with Marzocchi post mount forks - as though the hub's disc mounting was too far outwards (but only a gnat's fart).

or more like Hopes floaters are too FAT.

erm, I suppose they could be, Nick. but they're fine if I use my Hope proII front hub (go figure  )

This kind of nonsesne comes back to my rant about industry standards a few weeks back. Seems like everyone just makes them up as they go along.
