Hi

I have been having problem with my wheel hub as when i tighten it up and make sure it smooth but still have no play after a few rides it has come loose again and wobbles like hell.

I really don't know how to fix it properly but would like to learn.
So if anyone could provide a link with a tutorial on this and how to get it nice and tight without it crushing my BB.

When i tighten it up so it have no play when i spin the wheel i can hear ticking and i didn't know if this is normal and if i should just let it be but would like some advice.

Sorry if this is a really stupid topic but i just wanted to know.

Thanks

Ryan

Will be some cup and cone hub then.

Park tools has a good guide on hub servicing. Check the axle is not bent, and the surfaces of the hubs and bearings are smooth.

and use some proper cone spanners, i fiound it a just about manageable nightmare until i got some. It also helps to do one side at a time.

Is there any crunchy noises with the ticking?
If you decide to strip and clean it (or already have), check the old grease you remove on a rag or some tissue to see if there are any fragments (shiney bits of metal) also check the bearings/cone/cups for pits or scores.
It could be that your bearings/cones or even the bearing cups/dishes in the hub itself are damaged causing the play as they break down, this would also cause the ticking/crunching as the bearings ride over the fragments.
    Hope this helps.

If you cant race it, and you can't take it to bed, what is the point?

    Hi

When i cleaned it all out i made sure the inside was al smooth and then i cleaned off all the BB and put them back and coverd them with greese.

I didnt see any problem with the sides and ther wasnt any bit of metal in the old greese.

I dont have any cone spanners atm so i think il get some and then try as it was hell tryin to tighten the bolts up without thin spanners.

But my bolts on ither side are very loose as when i tighen them the hub get stiff even just a little tighen.

    Thanks

There is your problem - it is impossible to adjust them correctly without cone spanners for the cone, and another spanner for the locknut. You lock one against the other.

Ahhhh so its a nutted axle, i think whats happening is when you tighten the wheel nuts up they are spinning your entire axle causing everything to tighten.
You do by the sounds of it need cone spanners to tighten everything before your wheel goes back on, otherwise when you start to tighten, it will tighten the cones up onto the bearings and stiffen up like it is doing.
Try your LBS to tighten them doesn't take a minute and if they are sound shouldn't charge you either. (Just dont hold me to the no charge part, they may be tight)
