the stars tennis balls by steven fry is an amzing book, just get through the first 2 or 3 slow chapters.0

The Wasp Factory, The Crow Road and Walking on Glass by Iain Banks are all good.
Also, The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux. Much better than any film or musical, it's a great story! It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

Conrad's Heart of Darkness is my intellectual choice.
My geek favourite is the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb.
Love reading though, wish I could get more undisturbed time in which to do it.Less internal organs, same supertwisted great taste.0 -
Boy in the Striped Pyjamas which I bought when I was visiting Auschwitz - the film is pretty good too.
Edit: I have just finished a book called Lone Traveller: One Woman Two Wheels and the World by Anne Mustoe about her bike journey round the world which was really interesting. My Website - Trail Centre info for the UK: MTB Trail Time0 -
Espedair Street by Iain Banks, I reckon. Or possibly Vurt by Jeff Noon, or the Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein. All ace.Uncompromising extremist0

I quite liked ''Intensity'' by Dean Koontz. Really good. The last 100ish pages, I just COULDN'T put it down...
But real-life books... not sure to be honest. I want the guy who circumnavigated the world, using ONLY human power (and took 5 years to do it!) to hurry up and write a book! Also, I'm soon to start reading Ted Simon's 'Jupiters Travels'. It was, by far and away, my Dad's favourite book, before he passed away. He read it over and over. So, I am going to have a read myself.

Also, read Lance Armstrongs books too. Surprisingly good....

Not sure I can pick out a favourite (maybe Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card) but stand outs from the last few months are:
World War Z by Max Brooks (a history of the "zombie war" told from an interesting perspective)
Warlord trilogy by Bernard Cornwell (dark ages Arthurian historical fiction)0 -
